An untitled poem

(Li Shangyin of Tang Dynasty)

昨夜星辰昨夜风，

画楼西畔桂堂东。

Last night ,under the stars and amid the breezes ,we met in the west of the Pictorial Chamber and the east of the Cinnamon Hall.

身无彩凤双飞翼，

心有灵犀一点通。

Although I did not have the wings of a colorful butterfly, I still could easily reach your heart by my sensitivity.

隔座送钩春酒暖，

分曹射覆蜡灯红。

We sat side by side and played the drinking game of sending fishing hooks over the warmth of spring wine.

We took turns to guess each other's riddles under the the redness of the candlelight.

嗟余听鼓应官去，

走马兰台类转蓬。

Thereafter , I was summoned by the rolls of drums and had to attend the morning official assembly . I rode on the horseback and rushed towards the secretary’s office like a drifting fleabane.
